Water Mediation and Flooding in Puget Sound
You may not think much about your homes crawlspace until something goes wrong and requires the repairs of a professional contractor like Crawl Space Cleaning Pros. One of the most potentially hazardous issues we see in Seattle and Tacoma-area crawl spaces is flooding and standing water, which can often be prevented with the installation of a sump pump system to manage excess water.
Potential Problems with Flooding and Standing Water
Water can not only threaten significant structural damage, but it can lead to a high risk for mold and mildew, which are a health hazard for your family. If you do have a flood at home, you will want to call us for water mediation services right away so that you can minimize any lasting damage in your crawl space. For a preventive approach to water mediation, we can install a sump pump system in your crawl space, which will reroute water safely away from your home to spare you the headache of water damage cleanup and mold remediation or wood destroying insects.
Even just a few inches of water can cause thousands of dollars in damage
Sump Pump Installation
A sump pump is a common crawlspace feature that could save you from extensive repairs down the road. Even just a few inches of water can cause thousands of dollars in damage, but a sump pump will reduce or eliminate this damage by diverting water away from your house when water levels rise during a storm or if your house is susceptible to ground water seepage. If your crawl space is not already equipped with a sump pump, installation will be a relatively simple process, which will include the following steps:
French Drain system and Sump Pump
Trenching is done around the perimeter of the crawlspace and throughout it. The corrugated drain pipe is placed into the trenched areas. Installers will then fill the trench with lava rock so dirt will not clog the sump pump. These drains are placed to direct excess water into the 15-gallon basin. This basin is strategically placed at the lowest point in the crawlspace. Once the drain and pit have been constructed, the pump will be put in place and routed to the exterior gutter system for effective water removal. A back-flow device is also installed to keep the water from flowing back into the crawlspace. A secondary 12 Volt pump is installed and connected to a battery as a backup in case of a power outage.
